Advertising agencies in Nigeria will enter into a new creative thinking as the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) is set to explore the advertising opportunities available around Lagos State waterways.

Speaking recently in Lagos, the head of the agency, George Noah explained that this was part of the agency’s effort to develop a proper master plan for other sectors of the Lagos outdoor advertising market, noting that “LASAA intends to make Lagos a foremost city in Africa and indeed the world through creative outdoor advertising experience.

“LASAA is working closely with Lagos State Waterways Authority to maximise the potential and benefits of water advertising in the state.”

Speaking further, he said “we are working on developing other means of outdoor advertising aside from land. These include sky and water advertising,” adding that the aesthetics and ambiences this will provide will be huge for the practice of outdoor advertising in Lagos State.

“This platform will no doubt encourage practitioners to become more innovative with other medium of outdoor advertising particularly water,” said Noah.

It would be recalled that Spot on Media, a foremost outdoor advertising agency in Lagos, recently showcased some of its newly acquired hydro advertising formats in preparedness for the new era of water advertising.

The state boasts of vast opportunities for water advertising which has the potential to promote sport, business, tourism and transport. The city of Lagos parades some of the best infrastructures, which supports water advertisement.

The construction of new jetties and terminals as well as the dredging and channelization of Ikorodu waterfront, the Lagos Lagoon, Ojo-Marina, Ijede-Badore and Falomo-Marina among others, presents a beautiful scenery for aquatic activities.

Meanwhile, LASAA is revamping Apapa-Oshodi Expressway for outdoor advertisement.

This move is in line with the agency’s plan for a new signage and outdoor advertising master plan.

Speaking on this development, Noah stated that “this is part of LASAA’s plan to redefine Out-of-Home advertising in the state in line with the directives of Governor Babatunde Fashola. We have developed a new design for Apapa-Oshodi stretch taking into consideration modern and innovative outdoor structures that will compliment the environment.”

Noah added that “all outdoor practitioners whose structures have been affected particularly the spectacular types (Unipoles) have been notified of this exercise. We have engaged them on the benefits of the exercise to get their buy-in’’.

He emphasized that all outdoor practitioners whose advertising structures are affected will have the first right of refusal on the stretch after the exercise is completed. The Agency is proposing structures with Portrait design types, Tower designs, Cladded columns, V-shaped designs, Boundary wall signs, Bus shelters, and Street furnitures.

The redesign of Apapa Oshodi Expressway is one of the many steps to be taken by LASAA to implement the new outdoor master plan. The current leadership of Mr. Noah has been in the vanguard for the implementation of an outdoor advertising master plan which will specify the type and location for the placement of outdoor advertisement structures. ‘’This in the long run, will eradicate clutter and clustering which Lagos outdoor advertising space was synonymous with a few years ago.”
